DRH Research Project.
This is an overview of the fundamental process behind transitioning from a 2D map to a 3D local scene in ArcGIS Pro.
This research project started with the case study of Venice, incorporating the river city’s building footprints, landmarks and its elevation. The elevation layer was then used for the ground surface of a 3D local scene, and buildings were extruded using the Extrusion-Max Height tool after some data prep. To add realistic detail, a rule package created in ArcGIS CityEngine was incorporated, and this resulted in accurate 3D massing that can be utilised for various purposes in Urban Planning and Design.
